HISTORY OF HORROR

The roots of filmed horror were an extension of a genre of literature that got its start in the late 1700s: Gothic literature. The term 'horror' did not come into use for the film until the 1930s, however, the following film, ."The Hunted Castle." (Melieres, 1896) shares many elements we associate with the genre.
